Has anyone ever sweated after a hysterectomy?

Has anyone ever experienced seating after a hysterectomy. My mum has had it but without her ovaries being removed so no need for hormone replacement tablets. But she sweats every night when she falls asleep....experience/ideas will be appreciated!

Your mom is experiencing surgical menopause and it's often quite harsh. Even though she still has her ovaries, a hysterectomy can cause them to stop functioning. Sweating/hot flashes are part of that and she'll experience all the other symptoms of menopause. It will be up to her as to whether or not she decides to persue hormone replacement.





Hysterectomy is generally very safe, but with any major surgery comes the risk of complications. Such complications include blood clots, infection, excessive bleeding or an adverse reaction to the anesthesia.





Other risks of hysterectomy are:





Damage to your urinary tract, bladder or rectum during surgery, which may require further surgical repair


Loss of ovarian function


Early onset of menopause

A hysterectomy removes a womb, not the entire body's supply of sweat glands so there is no reason why she wouldn't sweat. Maybe she has other medical issues that need checking?
Reply:It's somewhat of a myth that keeping the ovaries eliminates the need for hormone replacement therapy. Blood supply is cut off during the surgery and the ovaries can cease to function.Night sweats are part of menopause and can be eliminated with HRT. She should talk to her doctor.
Reply:Many women who are going thru menopause or perimenopause will experience night sweats. Depending on her age, she may be entering menopause. How long ago was the surgery? Is she taking any meds? I had a hysterectomy in 1999 with one ovary left intact. I sweat like a lumberjack....nearly every night since.
Reply:~Night sweats and hot flashes are a definite symptom of menopause.


I had a full hysterectomy which caused a "Surgical Menopause." I was only in my late 30's. I was given Estrogen, a hormone replacement pill.


If your mom feels really sad or unusually angry, that's another sign. I think your mom should see a different doctor, she is experiencing symptoms of menopause and it should not be ignored. If she's not for that, there are over the counter hormones you can buy.

Reply:But even with her ovaries there, if she's older (older than 40-45) they may not be putting out enough hormones for her to prevent menopause from coming on anyway. It sounds like she's entering it, unfortunately.
Reply:Usually a total hysterectomy will send the person straight into menopause, thus causing the sweats. The symptoms may not be full on to start with but it happens at any age.

Your mum may have her ovaries but it doesn't mean that her hormones are in balance. Hormones can be unbalanced at any age between puberty and "100"





The only reliable way to check hormone balance is have a saliva test.

If as I suspect they recommend you obtain hormones please have a saliva test done see www.npis.info or www.salivatest.com. A saliva test will check out active hormones something that blood tests do not.

Any progesterone you buy must be natural progesterone USP. USP means United States Pharmacopoeia. Wild yam is that wild Yam the body will not convert it to progesterone





Do not take fake/patented progesterone/progestins manufactured by the drug companies they will be of NO benefit.





If a hormone is suggested by the saliva test please take the dose suggested for you. Size 10 shoes are not twice as good if you have size 5 feet.
