I am from California but live in Thailand now and believe me it is hot! I swear I feel like I am melting everyday that I walk out of my aircon house.Thai people don't seem to sweat the way westerners do.I am soaked to the bone and they just have a few litttle dots on their upper lip.
My question is I am worried about dehydration.I drink maybe 3 or 4 liters of water a day but it just runs out of my pores as fast as it goes in my mouth. Is there any kind of pill or vitamin I can take to help me sweat less?Do water retention pills stop sweating?I don't eat bad.I eat plenty of Thai food and maybe a burger once a month. But the bad American diet is a few year old history for me now.
I know the extreme humidity of Thailand is a huge factor and that California can be very hot but dry.I love heat I just realize that theThai live here in the humidity and don't sweat the way myself and other westerners do.Please give some advice.Thank you.
Question about dehydration?
There's no point trying to take pills that reduce sweating. Firstly, sweating is a necessary thing--it maintains the right temperature. Moreover, such pills would have their own side-effects--dry mouth, constipation, urinary retention, vomiting, visual disturbances, and may be psychosis (assuming they r what r known as anti-muscarinics). So, avoid them at any cost.
See, whatever water u lose in form of sweat is a nonissue, since u can always replenish that through drinking more water, but what u need to be careful of r the electrolytes (salts)--sodium, chloride, potassium, etc, loss of which can result in light-headedness (sodium-depletion) %26amp; cramps (potassium loss). Drink lots of fruit juices (eating fresh fruits is even better), make sure the color of urine never turns deeply yellow (which is a sure sign of dehydration), wear white cotton clothes.
It's a known fact that work-efficiency decreases in a humid environment.
One more thing, u may have not realized that one loses quite a bit of water even in air-conditioned environment.
Protect ur skin by applying sun-screen, and eyes by using sun-glasses or photo-chromatic glasses (this is very important to delay the occurence of cataract).
Hope this all helps. Bye. TC.
Question about dehydration?
I think I would seek the advice of a physician or nutritionist. However, the first thing that comes to mind are salt tablets. Also, I think bananas are helpful in reducing dehydration.
Finally, the only water retention pills that I am aware of are to reduce water retention which IS NOT what you want to do. lol

Reply:Keep in mind that the body fluid in your body has a certain concentration of ions. If you drink loads of water and nothing else, you will not only excrete the water, but load up your cells with water. Drink Gatorade or some sort of equivalent, or at least make sure that you're consuming more than just water, otherwise you'll just excrete it right out, and do your body more good. Yes, your body does need water, however it has other needs as well.
In cases of dehydration, your body will stop sweating. It's a natural reflex. Of course, this will only happen when you are on the verge of heat exhaustion. So be glad you are sweating, and make sure that you consume food with the water you drink.
Reply:" I swear I feel like I am melting everyday that I walk out of my aircon house" --- yeah right,,me too. i'm a thai and i know how you feel ,,its really really hot
and about sweat ,,i dont think u should take any pills ..i think because of a tropical climate -- so its obvious that you are sweating..but in california -- its hot but your sweat can evaporate very easy..
that's what i think
