I believe that my husband may have a urinary tract infection.
He has been very sick with a high fever since early this morning. At first I thought it was flu or a stomach virus....he was wringing wet with sweating and he wouldn't get out of bed. I couldn't get him to eat anything either...I fixed him chicken broth and tried to give him 7 Up and he wouldn't touch it. He did throw up once today. I did just now try to feel his temperature....and he feels clammy yet he is wringing wet from sweating and he is so weak. He isn't coughing, and no breathing problems. Is it possible that he could get over a urinary infection without being taken to a hospital, if he is seen or treated at home by his doctor? He hasn't thrown up since this morning.
If this is a urinary infection, is it possible that he could be sweating so heavily? I have had urinary tract infections, but I never did sweat. Thanks
Urinary tract infection with fever -- is this serious?
There is really no way to know exactly what your husband is going through without getting a urinalysis to rule out white blood cells/blood. The doctor may also want to perform blood tests to see if he white blood cell count is high.
Your husband's body is trying to cool itself off by sweating. A good idea would be to take his temperature to see how high it is.
Bacterial infections need antibiotics to clear up. The higher the temperature the more pervasive the infection.
You should make an appointment in the morning to be seen
a.s.a.p. It is not unheard of for someone to develop a kidney infection after an untreated bout of a UTI.
Let the doctor make the correct diagnosis and prescribe the proper medication.

if it was an urinary tract infection he would feel a burning sensation when he pees....
Reply:It is possible to have a fever with any infection, as it is your body's way of killing the infection. But, with all the vomiting, it might also be something besides a UTI. You don't mention once that he's having problems urinating or pain while urinating, those are the most common UTI signs. Also, if it's been a few days and he has not had treatment, he could also have blood in his urine and lower back pain. In any case, he sounds extremely ill and I think you should get him to a doctor ASAP.
Reply:Sounds like you just need to take him to the doctor. TRUST ME! My mother-in-law thought she had the flu and didn't go to the doctor. Her infection kept getting worse and worse and she became severely dehydrated. She had a fever for about 4 days. She is still in the hospital now because it knocked her blood pressure and sugar out of whack. She is having trouble getting better.
Better off if he isn't eating or drinking to take him to a doctor and get some medicine. If it is a UTI then he will need antibiotics.
Good Luck- Hope he gets to feeling better.
Reply:Yes I am an L.P.N. and he needs to have a U.A. test to see if there is any blood in his urine. He may not visibly see it- but the test will show how bad it is. I've seen people with it so bad that they appear to have the Flu. It's best to have it checked out by a Physician. I suggest drinking Cranberry juice until you can get him to a Doctor. Please do not give him Azo either. No- He will not get better from a UTI on his own. Seek Medical Attention so he doesn't damage his kidneys and get much sicker. If he can't eat or drink he will dehydrate also. Hope He feels better Real Soon , But Make Him Go See a Doctor.Oh! is he having low-back pain and burning when he urinates. Sometimes these symptoms don't always show up-So better Safe than Sorry.
Reply:Is he in pain?
Reply:number one take him to the doctor...its not common for a male to get uti without an underlying problem. My son just recently had the same symtoms and his turned out to be kidney stones and this id very serious on men.Matter of fact my son let his go so long he dehydrated and the fever escalated..please get him to the emergency romm bladder and kidney problems are very serious in men please listen to me if you dont take this serious he could suffer major problems now and in the future. GO TO THE DOCTOR
Reply:Why are you calling it a urinary tract infection.. has he had trouble passing his urine, or been diagnose with this when and what do you draw your conclusion on... Unless you have had this infection in your system for a while, you should not be running a fewer. It really sounds like the flu or some type of bug, and he really should be checked by a doctor, so he can be diagnose correctly and treated probably.
