When my son sweats. . . ?

My son smells like maple syrup when he sweats and I don't know why. Has anyone else heard of this? His sheets smell like syrup after just one night sleeping in them, I don't know if I should bring this up to his doc or not as he's always been like this and he's now almost 6.

You should definantly let his doc know asap . There is an illness where the person smells like maple syrup. It is called maple Syrup Urine Disease. It is a Nitrogen metabolism Defect. The treatment involves removing Amino acids from the diet. I doubt that this is what makes your son smell so sweet, but it is worth bringing it up.

Hi camrnhill, I was wondering what the doc. said about your little boy? I've realized lately that my son has the same symptoms. Just wondering if it's something to worry about. Thanks so much. Report It

Reply:Yes, bring it up to the doctor. It could be an indication of something.
Reply:omg my sister smelled the same way when she was ababy and know shes 6 and shes fine
Reply:u might want to seek medical attention this is a sign of Diabetes!
Reply:There's a disease called maple syrup urine disease.. but it is usually diagnosed within the first few weeks of life. I would, however, take him to the doc and ask about it because it's a metabolitic disorder.
Reply:easy stop giving the kid sugar. our bodys smell is caused from our diet. for a while i drank a lot of gatorade and i started to smell like those damn liqued soap dispensers in the bathrooms...stopped drinking the gatorade and the smell went away... so lay of the sugurs and drink more water.
Reply:Its an indication of something....go to your doc...
Reply:OMG...THIS IS BAD THIS IS REALLY BAD. GET YOUR SON TO THE NEAREST IHOP THAT PROBABLY WHERE HE CAME FROM
Reply:Ensure the bed sheets and clothes are cleaned frequently and give him a bath more often.
Reply:this is not something that you should ignore ..this is a sign of childhood diabetes..you need to get him to the Dr asap..until then look up a diabetic diet on the web and cut his sugar intake by that i don't mean just cookies cakes etc..white bread, some pastas, certain can foods..if this goes ignored he can have seizures, blindness, abnormality to his organs ,it can effect his heart,i know this sounds scary but i have lived through it ..it doesn't take a whole lot to fix if caught early you will be able to teach him life long diabetic skills and it will be easier as an adult or teen for him GOOD LUCK
Reply:Either that or have him sweat on your pancakes and waffles
