Does running when it鈥檚 hotter burn more calories?

By noon time it gets here to about 88 F, and like 80% humidity. I can handle the heat, it just makes my run harder and I sweat more. I usually run in the mornings or after 10 pm when it鈥檚 cooler- 75-80 F, but I see people cycling/running/walking at the dog hot hours.





I am aware to the dangers of dehydration and so on, but apart from the liquid loss, do you burn more calories when it鈥檚 hotter? Significantly?





You sweat more, and when you鈥檙e sweating you lose salt, sugar etc, and it also forces your body to work harder for energy, so it uses more calories. And your heart has to do extra work to prevent you from overheating. Or am I incorrect?

im not sure about the calorie output and weight loss but i know it helps ur muscles stretch and helps rpevent hurting urself..i did hot yoga which means they crank the thermostat up in an already hot room and ur sweat like theres no tomorrow...i felt better despite being totally soaked after an hour and i felt more limber and flexible but i didnt notice any difference in my weight..it has its health benefits cuz it keeps u stretched but as long as ur careful not to get dehydrated and hopefully ur using sunscreen then i think ur all set

you don't lose sugar thru sweat. You do lose water and some salts. No running when it is hot does not burn any more calories, it just increases your risk for dehydration and then later water retention.


"Only mad dogs and British go out in the noon day sun.." is an old old quote, but it is really quite true in it's intent, there is a reason to avoid exertion during the hottest part of the day.
